Who is Porter Doughty?

I am a Cybersecurity undergraduate with a minor in Computer science, dedicated to furthering my own education and applying my learning to real world applications.

(yes… I am aware my name was spelled incorrectly… please don’t hold that against me! :D)

My studies at ODU have brought me along the path of Cybersecurity while attaining a Minor in Computer Science. I primarily focus of the technical aspects of Cybersecurity and Cybercrime, such as forensic analysis, malware detection and investigation, and cyberterrorism.

Hoping to further my path down the Cybersecurity and Cybercriminal route, I have participated in many extracurricular events. I received 1st place in Dr. Ayman El Mesalami’s raspberry pi coding contest, led a group of fellow undergraduate researchers during a summer research program under the direct of Dr. El Mesalami, I took part in the early stages of building and leading the systems in place for ODU’s esports livestreaming and recording studios, and I am well known within the computer science community here at ODU as always being helpful inside and outside the classroom.

Growing up in a small town on the coast of Hampton Roads, I have always taken an interest in computers. I grew to love the online communities I would meet and the games I would play, but my interest slowly started shifting towards the more technical aspect of computers and how they worked fundamentally.

My work life has been relatively straight forward for most of my college career. During my summers since 2017, I have worked for my hometown’s public pool, being promoted to manager in 2021. During the fall, I am a scare actor for Howl-O-Scream in Williamsburg, VA. At Old Dominion University, I am a esports commentator and broadcaster and held the position of Lead Broadcast director in 2023.

Two of my three amazing sisters and my wonderful girlfriend!
