I\u2019m most excited about learning new things and meeting people during my first semester of college. I expect my biggest challenge this semester to be money management because there are certain things like textbooks that I need for college, and the money I brought from home isn\u2019t enough to cover textbook expenses. I don\u2019t participate in any sports, organizations, nor do I have a job so I believe that I will spend 2-3 hours each week to complete assignments and revise for each of my classes. I plan to balance all these commitments by making a to-do list to keep track of everything that I need to do during the day or the following week. I participated in two organizations in high school; Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and African Student Association (ASA). For now, there isn\u2019t a club or organization I plan to join because I\u2019m still figuring out my schedule and free times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
My intended major in Dental Hygiene. I chose this major because I want to teach others the importance of oral health and assist them with cleaning and maintaining a healthy life. The skill I possess that make this major a good choice for me is communication and problem-solving skills. The only experience I have that relates to Dental Hygiene is brushing my teeth and working well with others. My career goals for the next 5 years are hopefully receiving a bachelor\u2019s degree in dental hygiene and becoming an entrepreneur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The biggest difference between high school and college is that I was dependent in high school and I\u2019m on my own in college. Yes, there\u2019s a difference between studying and homework. Studying is learning or revising concepts for your own benefit and homework is completing an assignment to get a grade from a teacher. I expect to study 2 hours per week for Introductory to Chemistry, Chemistry Lab, and Introduction to Health Professions. I expect to study 3 hours per week for Introduction to Sociology and 1 hour for Oral Communication and Literacy. The potential distractions I can anticipate is checking my phone for text messages and receiving phone calls. I plan to avoid these distractions by silencing my phone or turning on Do Not Disturb. The best time of day to study is 10am to 1pm because I\u2019m not sleepy as much and my mind isn\u2019t occupied with events of the day.
