Welcome to my professional portfolio. After nine years of teaching English at the secondary level, I moved to my current position as Assistant Professor of English at McPherson College (MC) in McPherson, Kansas. This is my seventh year instructing literature, composition, and public speaking at MC. Currently, I am pursuing a doctorate in English at Old Dominion University (ODU) in Norfolk, Virginia, studying at a distance while continuing to teach full time. While literature and cultural studies are my chosen emphases, I am also invested in exploring effective composition pedagogies.<\/p>\n

As I professional, I identify primarily as a teacher; my professional, scholarly, and research interests are all anchored in my desire to effectively empower students to successfully and\u00a0productively interact with literature as well as produce their own texts. Working toward this overarching goal, I am currently in the process of diversifying the general education literature offerings at my institution. My aim is for students to consistently have the opportunity to hear the stories of many cultures, particularly those traditionally underrepresented in the academy. Dovetailing with my goal of diversification is my goal to research and discover the most impactful pedagogies whereby students may learn to significantly interact with and respond to a variety of literary voices. As I study and implement any pedagogy, I strive to ensure equity and accessibility for students from all backgrounds and of all skill levels.<\/p>\n
