Why Cybercrime isn’t Reported
Cybercrime is at an all-time high, with people being victimized and taken advantage of practically everyday. With all the data and research that has been collected for the cybercrime that is reported to the authorities, it can be equally as interesting as to why people might not alert the media or law enforcement. I find that there can be a plethora of reasons people keep victimization secret in the cyber world and the main causes seem to be assumptions law enforcement will be unable to help, fear of revictimization, embarrassment, and alternative problem solving like paying extortion or ignoring it. It’s also hard to understand if you’re vulnerable and under attack since most hackers act sneakily and try to remain undetected, so some victims don’t even realize they are victims. Technology is growing everyday and not everyone in the general public is familiar with ways they can be breached/bombarded by a cybercriminal.
