NICE Workforce Framework – CYSE 201S

After looking at the NICE Workforce Framework, I have assessed which departments I have a keen interest in and which ones I would show limited excitement about.

At first glance, I would say that my attention was focused on the Operate & Maintain as well as the Protect & Defend areas. I chose the Operate and Maintain area because it involves the IT department which is vital to any organization. I feel as though the more professionally trained and organized the IT department is, the more successful and safeguarded the business will be. They are responsible for monitoring the databases, watch over firewalls, and troubleshoot any server issues. I find that to be very helpful, employers are likely to keep effective employees around, and pay them respectfully for the work they put in. I also chose the Protect and Defend because of how important it is to be able to shutdown attacks, repel hacks/crises, and employ countermeasures against database threats. That is a skill in the cybersecurity world that I would deem essential.

I decided to stay away in terms of interest in the Analyze department and the Oversee and Govern department. I don’t find excitement and passion for data collection and analyzing a vast amount of collected data. Although, i do respect the need for such work because sometimes the best offense is good defense. Knowing vulnerabilities and what can be exploited by using data collections is admirable. I also didn’t find much curiosity in Oversee and Govern simply because I am just now starting my career with computers and cybersecurity so it is hard to picture myself teaching someone else and taking over a management role. I would need more experience learning about the legalities of cybersecurity and achieve some certifications before I offer any form of leadership.
