Learning Style

I have not established a study method for English, since there is no material to know, I have nothing to study. For chemistry I read the textbook and take notes on it. Then I make flashcards to review the material later. In chemistry lectures, I actively take notes in case Professor McCoy explains something in a different way than the textbook did. For History, I read the textbook and take notes on the textbook. Additionally, I watch YouTube videos of the “Key Terms” that she posts, so I can hear someone else explaining it to me. I also take notes on the YouTube videos. In history class, I actively take notes too. For sociology, I read the textbook and take notes. Additionally, I do practice quizzes on McGraw Hill and take notes in class.

I am doing well in sociology. What works best for me is taking notes from the textbook and then making flashcards afterwards. This way I can review terms and material that I need to know. Additionally, there are practice quizzes that count as extra credit towards the end of the year, but help reinforce the material. Before quizzes, I retake the practice quiz for each chapter to review and check my understanding.

The class that I am experiencing some challenges is in history. I have started studying with one other student for this course. This helps because we are discussing topics which help us make sense of what we already know and connect it to new ideas. I plan on studying for at least an hour and a half each day. I should spend more time on key terms. If I am able to identify what the key terms mean, I am able to apply it to history. I am being systematic by either studying my notes or my flashcards one at a time, not both together. I am not taking much advantage of the learning support available to me. However, I have recently gotten a study buddy for the course. I am confused on what are the important parts in history that I should focus on to be prepared for exams. I have not taken a history exam yet, so I can’t apply my study habits to my history exam results.
