I am pursuing a major in dental hygiene. I have chosen this major because I had a caring dental hygienist, named Mary, the very first time I went to the dentist. Mary remained my hygienist up until she retired and I have always had a positive experience at the dental office. I want to make patients feel as comfortable, as Mary did, when they arrive to the office for their appointment.
I have taken two years of an academy course for dental assisting. I worked in a dental office up at the front taking temperatures and ensuring patients filled out a COVID-19 form, before entering the office, in the summer of 2020. After completing my second year of academy I passed the Radiation Health and Safety Exam through DANB and became Nationally certified to take x-rays. In the summer of 2021, I worked at a different dental office working as a chair side dental assistant. My duties included sterilization of rooms and instruments, setting up for a procedure and breaking down the room after, taking x-rays, and explaining insurance breakdowns to patients that needed to come back for a procedure.
