Course Material

Below is a course assignment which outlines key privacy concerns and highlights why Virginians are calling for protections of their personal information. It explains the importance of safeguarding sensitive data such as biometric identifiers and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and provides an overview of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as a model framework. Additionally, the memorandum reviews privacy laws enacted in other states, like California’s Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), to illustrate potential approaches. Finally, it evaluates whether Virginia should pursue state-level legislation or advocate for federal action, weighing the benefits and drawbacks of both strategies to guide the Governor’s decision-making.
