This site is a place where you can find important information about ODU policies on Research Integrity and Scientific Misconduct.\u00a0 By being aware of the policies and procedures you can hopefully avoid any of the pitfalls.<\/p>\n<p>Science, often funded with public money, drives the advancement of knowledge.\u00a0 Unethical research leads to a loss of public trust, the waste of valuable research funds, and potentially harm to someone or the environment; society suffers. When misconduct is committed, it can take years to identify and correct, putting more at risk and requiring more public funds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nsf-gov-resources.nsf.gov\/files\/nsf24_1.pdf?VersionId=W0GJTUpYwRP3FRBju7EMAKAtt86QOcMZ\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">National Science Foundation policy\u00a0(PAPPG)<\/span><\/b><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0requires \u201crequires that each institution that applies for financial assistance from the Foundation for science and engineering research or education describe in its grant proposal a plan to provide appropriate training and oversight in the responsible and ethical conduct of research to undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and other senior\/key personnel supported by the proposed research project. Such training must include mentor training and mentorship.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 It is the institutions\u00a0responsibility\u00a0for verifying that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and other senior\/key personnel\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">supported by NSF to conduct research have received training in the responsible and ethical conduct of research.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/grants\/guide\/notice-files\/NOT-OD-22-055.html\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">National Institutes of Health policy<\/span><\/b><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0requires every NIH-supported trainee to receive instruction in the responsible conduct of research.
