First beginning with how computers have made the world safer, with computers we have made air transportation safer, before computers we did not have ways to track the weather or track other airplanes, the navigation system was maps and a compass and looking for landmarks. Nowadays, we use fly-by-wire control schemes, which means that the computer ultimately decides what happens, based on certain rules and pilot input. Also, we can predict the weather, helping pilots to avoid dangerous situations. Secondly, the transportation by car. Imagine being in the 1900’s and still driving without safety features in the car. Nowadays, computers are giving us the ability to improve cars to become more reliable and used by everyone with little skills. For example, we have sensors that allows us to notice a car in the blind spot, approaching too fast a car in front or even stopping for the user. Moreover, the GPS system has changed how we can drive more efficiently and safely, by not getting lost, or driving on dangerous routes and finally accuracy of time and place. Lastly, the health industry has been revolutionary because computers help the population to live longer and healthier by attacking illness quicker. For example, in the old times if somebody had developed cancer, we would not have an idea until the patient shows symptoms being too late to treat the cancer. And here is where computers come in handy because we have MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) that works by scanning a whole body and showing organs, bones, muscles, and blood vessels.

Sadly, computers have made the world less safe by people using the computer for harmful purposes. Like malicious hackers targeting people with no knowledge of computers or mostly elders taking advantage of them and stealing their personal information getting them access to their hard earn money. The second one, is by people making fake news or trying to manipulate the population leading them to bad political decision and miss informing, this could bring chaos into a society and many countries used these methods as an attack to destabilize a democracy. Finally, the third reason computers have made the world less safe by the invasion of our privacy. Lately, there is a lot of debate about smart devices being able to listen to your surroundings and a moment later you see that in your ads, content related about what are you talking with other people, and this could be extremely dangerous as we are meant to be free.

Computers have made the world safer and less safe.
