The first random act of kindness I did was give a homeless man $5 just because. It didn’t really make me feel any type of way because I knew it was just a nice thing to do for someone but the man was super grateful about it and wish me nothing but many blessings. The second random act of kindness I did was pay for the food from the people behind me but I wasn’t able to get their reaction which I feel made it even better just for the simple fact of being nice.

The random of kindness that I think really hit home for me is this girl in the parking lot had busted her head on the concrete and lost one of her front teeth. I extended my hand to help because the same thing had happened to me and I knew what was going through her mind at the moment and just wanted her to know she would be ok. Her reaction was thankful that someone was there and knew what she was going through. This one had me unbalanced because the same thing happened to me but I was still thankful I was there so that I could help her and she knew what to do. The fourth random act of kindness is that as a group I and my friends were able to surprise our friend with a birthday cake. It just felt nice to do that after everything she had been through recently. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get her reaction but I know she loved it. I don’t think my life would change if these one good act a day would be required to do for the rest of my life because I’m not doing it because I want to but because it was required of me.

From: https://oysterbaytown.com/town-launches-surprise-recognition-program-for-random-acts-of-kindness/

This photo is relevant because just granting someone a small act of kindness can make someone’s whole day!!

Assignment Takeaway 2

Me

When I see myself I see young women who has gone throught so much at such a young age but also a young lady persevering through all those challenges without so much as a complaint. Two of the images I selected I found myself to be at my happiest not only because I was surrounded by family and friends but also because I was being my truest self and that’s all anyone could ask for. Those two images are significant to me because they are me living in the moment as a little sister and a young lady finding herself in such a chaotic world. Furthermore, these images are considered special because they were my first experiences traveling and really experiencing what the world had to offer. Even though those images showed me at my highest I’ve been at a low point in my life where no one even notice.

The image where I was at my lowest point is when I was in a hospital bed and truly didnt know how I would be able to come back from that point. This image showed me as wounded and it’s significant because at that time I came to realize that I was moving too fast and needed to slow down to understand what was in front of me. The image of me in my cap in gown was also me at my lowest because it was the beginning of the pandemic and I didn’t understand what was planned for me at this point. Many of these images show me going though a phase of growth as a little sister, African American woman, graduate, and more importantly a human being finding her way.

Assignment Takeaway 1

This Image comes from https://vinnter.se/tag/5-stage-design-thinking-process/

Heuristics are rules that help guide our decision-making process based on available information or on our own knowledge. There are multiple heuristics that help guide our decision-making process that include representativeness, availability, anchoring & adjustment, and Status Quo heuristics. Many of these heuristics approaches can lead to error because some of the previous knowledge that worked for past situations may not be the solution to the present problem. Furthermore, if we keep using the same solution it will make it difficult to create new ideas or solutions. The representativeness heuristic is a shortcut in our minds to help predict the certainty of an event. For example, when police are looking for a suspect in a crime they usually automatically use this bias to predict what the suspect possibly could look like or how it could end up. This can cause a problem based on stereotyping the suspect before actually knowing what they look like and arresting the wrong person.

Another heuristic that causes a change in error is the availability heuristic which uses easy access to information to draw conclusions about the future. For example, when the news reports on the plane crash and uses vivid images it causes people to have a fear of planes, but in reality, there is a bigger chance of being killed in car crashes than a plane crash. When a person relies on facts then adjusts their morals based on those facts it is called anchoring and adjustment which can cause dishonesty. For example, when a manager is negotiating with a candidate about their salary they will start low making it their anchor. Furthermore will cause the candidate to settle with a low salary still because they are basing it on the starting salary. People prefer things to stay as they are or the current state which is status quo. For example, a person would rather stick with the same provider that has been in good use for years but another provider is asking for the same pay, but more channels. The customer would rather stick with their original provider than go to another provider.

Assignment Takeaway 4 I was able to do four random acts of kindness this past weekend that made it feel extra nice in my opinion over the weekend.
