TA5: Module 7
This assignment addressed the correlation/dissonance between attitudes and behaviors. I chose to include this assignment because I feel like it’s an important aspect of social psychology. Our behaviors are often times not reflective of the attitudes we hold. We know what’s right and what we should do, but we don’t always follow through. This assignment sparked a personal connection; at the beginning of every semester I tell myself I’ll do every assignment and read every chapter thoroughly, but there have been times when I’ve forgotten or became overwhelmed. I know I should’ve planned my schedule to complete all assignments and readings on time, but I don’t always do so. Another behavior I agreed with yet fail to follow is recycling. I know the benefits to the environment, but I hardly ever recycle.
TA 4: Module 5
I was able to apply what I learned from the module to real life situations. Often times, homework assignments are strictly facts, and completely unrelated to life, but I liked how this was the complete opposite. It’s important to know ways we engage in self enhancement and other enhancement and how we can use these strategies in our favor. I do already engage in some of the situations mentioned, but it was interesting to break it down and even come up with new examples of each.
TA 3: Module 8
I learned how stereotypes we hold are affected by societal changes and how our stereotypes may affect our judgements and decisions. It was interesting to compare my stereotypes to that of the survey results from the 1930s and 50s. There were some similarities, and also some differences. Being multiracial, I don’t hold the same biases as those who may be one race and grew up around that one race. I chose to include this assignment because racism and prejudice are still two major issues that whether we realize it or not, affect our interactions with others. I feel like both issues are important in studying social psychology. Our positive/negative views of a particular group affect our external behaviors. Understanding the root of the problem is one step closer to solving the issue of racism and discrimination.
TA 2: Module 6
In this assignment, I had to dosome personal reflection. I had to think about how some of my personality traits reflect “me”. I would say my traits were overall consistent in a variety of situations. I do adapt in different situations, but for the most part, I behave consistently. I chose this assignment because I felt like it was an engaging way to apply the material. Understanding one’s self comes before understanding external behaviors and actions.
TA 1: Module 9
This assignment was the most interesting to me, because it was different. This module was one of my favorite because it focused on relationships and love/liking. Relationships and love are key aspects of social psychology, because they affect the type of interactions that occur between people. Based off my “research”, I could conclude that men on dating sites tend to be older and looking for younger attractive women, and women tend to be younger looking for a serious commitment.
