Q: Review Maslow\u2019s Hierarchy of Needs and explain how each level relates to your experiences with technology.\u00a0 Give specific examples of how your digital experiences relate to each level of need.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, every person has needs that must be fulfilled at the bottom of the model first before meeting the needs of the next level above that. Upon first glance on the model, all of these basic, psychological, and self-fulfillment needs don’t really seem to connect to technology, but each of these contribute to technology in some way. For instance, even on the basic level of just food and water whether it’s through just us ourselves or through other people, we get food all the time through technology with payment methods and transportation (such as cars and buses); furthermore, even the water we get from our tap comes from water treatment and processing plants that itself is processed through automated information systems. On the safety level, this could mean the needs of both literal, physical security of ourselves (like the ability to call 911 in case we’re in danger with our phones) and also digital security of our information\/data over the internet. Everything above even these essential needs encorporates technology in one way or another. For myself personally, I’ve been doing long distance with my girlfriend for over a year now and I wouldn’t be able to do that efficiently without the use of digital communication. Even things like esteem needs and self-actualization require needs from technology, like having all of my school work operate from digital technologies like Canvas and myodu and even building this very ePortfolio for my career and my goals in life. In summary, technology from both the essential needs and wants of our lives have a major impact and benefit to be able to be able to function effectively and to live easier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
