Marxism

Marxist Theory suggests that the past, not just experiences but historical situations are important to an author’s story and that most of these historical issues are due to class systems where a societal group has more power than another. Marxist Theorist  like to view literature as something created by the conditions the author was writing in, whether they’re ideological, based on common assumptions and belief systems that people would consider natural or socioeconomic, based on what occurs in society and economics. These are called cultural artifacts and by posing oppressive belief systems or ideologies as natural, the reader as well as the people of the world are kept from seeing our historical issues, for they don’t believe citizens knowing this would change the way they see the world. The writer might not purposely intend to write it that way however Marxist theorists believe text is written to either enhance oppression in society so the higher class can still stay on top, lower the amounts of dominion the higher class shows or does both. And this allows them to find out about the world to determine its condition and if things need to change whether it’s for the better or the worst in terms of the reader.

The theorist who revolutionized the idea of Marxism is of course Karl Marx, who influenced the creation of this theory. Marx believed Marxism is meant to show that issues in society are caused by class systems and the various class systems becoming confrontational with each other over their power levels. He also sees it as a way to determine if power structures are hidden or revealed or both and if there is a historical reason for it.
