Engaging in Communities

In this section I will talk about the stereotypes and identity. When engaging in a community these are things to be mindful and we can take these things for granted. Sometimes we can be unaware of it because of the cultural barrier we have in society. The examples I will be using in this section are discussion boards 17 and 18.

Discussion board 17 talks about stereotypes within communities. We watched a video in class where people were divided and throughout the course of it we can see everyone move in different places because everyone had something in common. The discussion board allowed me to see the different perspectives of my classmates and my community as a whole. If people would stop seeing others as labels and not realize is that we all have something in common that make us who we are. The importance of this assignment was that are we aware that we can easily hurt people. We should know how powerful we can be if people band together to combat against the beliefs of others. In discussion board 18 we talked about ethnic identity or what identity that people can have. For example one could be Hispanic but they do not speak the language therefor they are not considered part of the ethnic group. Everyone has an identity but that does not define who they are as a human being. Having these two discussions in class just makes you wonder the importance of being educated on different cultures. But even so it is important to see past race , identity, disability, etc because no matter what we are all the same in some shape or form.
