I engage in communities on a global scale sometimes I am able to do it locally but I feel as though social media and other communication platforms help. The importance of engaging in your communities is to expand your knowledge and improve communication with other cultures. We should not be simple minded when it comes to matters of being culturally diverse.

I remember my first experience of engaging in other cultures when I was nine years old. My school had a culture festival because they wanted us to experience the world in a different way. I remember the experience because of the vibrant color schemes within each booth that I visited. I remember at some point in the mid way of the festival I went to the Hispanic booth. What drew me over their was their cake I can not recall the specific name of it all I saw was chocolate and assumed it was chocolate cake. I remember that it did not taste like a store bought or homemade cake it was very unique. At that point I wanted to learn more about the culture because I wanted to make that dessert myself. I feel as though people can exposed themselves to other cultures through food. learning how to speak it is important to learn to but to be more hands on and engaging I would strive to learn about the culture through food. It inspires me to see their perspective on how their culture does things their way vs the American culture.
