Exploring Culture

In this section I will talk about my exploration culture from unit 21 about customs and traditions. Another example I will use is exploration culture from unit 19 about popular terms in Spanish speaking countries. These lingrolearning assignments helped me understand how cultures can be viewed differently.

In unit 21 we researched which country has a traditional drink like mate. Which I picked Chile who has a drink called Cola de Mono which is a specialty to drink around the holidays. I did learn a lot about a drink and it helped me understand the culture because I did not think that some Hispanic Cultures would have a drink specifically for the holidays. In America we have it but most of them we just. drink when the weather is cold. Chile’s Cola de Mono is another version of Egg Nog for us. Both drinks can be mixed well with alcohol. I did learn that Hispanic Countries have a variety of heavy alcohol but not all of it is bitter but some can be sweet.

In unit 19 we talked about the popular terms of identity. Which I found interesting to learn about the appropriate way to have different hispanic terminology mean different things in the culture and within some countries. I find it interesting that because I would think that some of the terms were labels for the community. Learning that It became so much more besides saying that people are Chicano, Latino, Hispanic, ect. they have more meaning behind the terminology of them because they come along with a history some good and bad. Overall, these assignments helped me understand How much history is within the Hispanic culture? and How terminology of things became to be? What I enjoyed about this course we dive more into finding out how things became to be within the Spanish Speaking countries and the changes that will happen in the future.
