Prompt: Why are you interested in cybersecurity technology?

Answer: Personally, I’ve always had some level of interest in computer science. Before even getting into computer hardware, it impressed me how computer technicians were able to solve almost any computer issue with ease. As I got more and more into the field of computers, the most interesting aspect to me was the field of cyber security and it’s corresponding technologies. When speaking to those in the cyber field, I didn’t understand what ‘Kali’ was or what ‘Red Team’ and ‘Blue Team’ meant, but I yearned to learn more. Through Tidewater Community College, I received a basic understanding, and love, for cyber security. One of the main reasons I love cyber security is it’s software technologies. To the uninitiated, they are clandestine applications that are extremely complex and convoluted. For those who understand them, they are simply modified versions of already existing technologies, having been redesigned for a specific purpose. This purpose being to defend or attack cyber space. An example would be Kali Linux, a Linux distribution that has dozens of applications that can be used for ethical red-team hacking, such as Medusa and Hydra. Another reason for this interest in cyber would be the learning curve. While at a lecture for cyber security at Tidewater Community College, a guest speaker told the audience that the cyber field is best suited for ‘life-long learners’. What the speaker meant was you will never know everything there is to know about this field. From firewalls, server configurations, proper reconnaissance methods, or basic troubleshooting, the field of Cyber Security, as stated in lecture, is a multi-disciplinary field. For me, this vastness makes the field constantly fresh. Every day I’m learning something new, and constantly broadening my field of knowledge. Cyber Security interests me due to it’s robust and unique software, as well as the seemingly unlimited knowledge that caters to life-long learners.
