Computers have made the world a safer place, from education to medicine, they have impacted all sects of society. Firstly, they have increased the efficiency of first responders and hospitals. Using computers, police can quickly pull up databases on potential suspects, giving them access to more information on potential criminals in a shorter time frame. Firefighters also benefit from computers, using better navigation software and digitized tools to better serve their communities. In an educational sense, students previously had to labor through libraries to find the information they needed. With the advent of modern computing and the internet, students can view all of human history and required knowledge in seconds. Society benefits from this efficiency in education, allowing students to quickly go into jobs like law enforcement and medical fields. Computers have made life easier and more efficient, but there have been a few drawbacks.

Despite the many benefits computers have brought to society, they make the world less safe in some respects. When one thinks about computer monitoring, one will quickly realize that everything is recorded. Bank transactions, social media posts, and search histories can quickly become vectors that malicious actors can use to track unsuspecting individuals. Everything is permanent on the internet. Another issue with computers is how intertwined they’ve become in society’s personal lives. Credit cards, medical documents, passwords, deeds, and almost every sensitive piece of data have been digitized. One mistake or accident, such as clicking a suspect link, could be devastating, destroying businesses and livelihoods. Building upon this, wars are more costly than ever before. With everything being linked to computers, society would cease to function. A devastating cyber-attack or EMP would render all devices, vehicles, tools, and machines useless. Homes, businesses, and the government would screech to a halt. The advancement of technology has brought great safety and danger to society as a whole.
