One of the countries that has an increased Cybersecurity risk is Honduras. Honduras lacks a proper framework. As discussed in previous modules, a cybersecurity framework is a set of rules that is important when it comes to protecting organizations or agencies against threats and helps identify weaknesses and vulnerabilities within an infrastructure. According to Shweta Sharma, in an article ranking countries that are the most and least at risk to cybercrime, Honduras was one of the Countries that had the highest risk. The country also scored the lowest on the Global Cybersecurity Index. Honduras also saw an increase in Cybercrime during the pandemic since during that time the Country began to utilize digital banking which opened the door for cyber criminals to commit fraud. An example of the tactics that criminals will use is creating fake social media profiles and engaging with victims in an effort to gain information from them. Once they obtain their information they will then threaten and intimidate victims while demanding lump sums of cash. So, Internet extortion continues to be on the rise in Honduras. Now, in comparison to the United States, The US has a better and more secure Cyber Security infrastructure than Honduras does. However, there are challenges that the US faces as well. Some of those challenges include Ransomware attacks, malware, and social engineering. One of the most recent attacks included the Colonial Pipeline hack. This pipeline, which carries gasoline and diesel, was forced to shut down after hackers hacked into computers that manage the pipeline and demanded money. This resulted in the Colonial Pipeline being shut down and forced into paying the attackers ransomware. In addition to that, a lot of large businesses and corporations in the United States are facing more cyber-attacks as well. In comparison to Honduras, cyber criminals will also use online threats and intimidation tactics in an effort to extort money from organizations.
