Motivations for Cybercrime Ranked

Hacking for financial gain is the motivation which makes the most sense to me, especially as it’s a well-established motive for many other types of crime. Political motivations would be next. While perhaps not justifiable, many people are willing to perform heinous deeds for what they see as good reasons. Entertainment and boredom are essentially the same thing in my eyes so I’ll list them together. While I wouldn’t go so far as to say they “make sense” as motivations, as someone who has found joy in the problem-solving playground of programming, I can see how cybercrime could be fun for these people. Recognition makes no sense to me as a motive for hacking, although I suppose it is a better path to take than shooting up a school or becoming a serial killer, both of which are also commonly committed by people who want recognition and frequently get it for their crimes. Lastly, revenge as motivation for cybercrime just strikes me as an absurdly petty reason.
