For this assignment, I connected with Charmelle Green. Charmelle is currently the Deputy Athletics Director, Chief Operating Officer, and Senior Woman Administrator at the University of Utah. With more than 20 years of experience in College athletics administration and coaching, she is an expert in her field, overseeing numerous aspects of Utah Athletics’ operations, including academics, compliance, student-athlete wellness, and more.

I’ve known Charmelle through my mother for some time, and I reached out to her via email, explaining my class assignment and the opportunity to connect with a professional in the sports industry. In a respectful and polite tone, I asked if she would be willing to serve as my penpal for the semester. To my delight, she graciously agreed to take part in this assignment, and we began our professional relationship.

Before her time at Utah, Charmelle spent 10 years at Penn State, where she had leadership roles, including Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Performance, Health, and Welfare. She also had a good impact at the University of Notre Dame, where she served as the head of Student-Athlete Welfare & Development and as the sport administrator for women’s swimming and diving. Charmelle’s experience extends has quite the resume. she also had a successful career as a softball coach and played an instrumental role in multiple teams’ successes. Her impressive career has earned her numerous honors, including her induction into the University of Utah Athletics Hall of Fame and the State of Utah Softball Hall of Fame.

In her current role at Utah, Charmelle has been responsible for leading the creation of Utes Productions, the university’s new digital broadcast, and she serves as the sport supervisor for women’s basketball.

As my penpal for the semester, Charmelle will be a good mentor and role model for the major athletic department and offer a great advice on having a career in sports administration.
