Five years ago, I mostly watched sports on TV or go to like ESPN and look up the scores and box scores on who won, and everyone’s stats.

Now, my sport media diet looks very different. I don’t watch as much TV anymore. Instead, I stream games on services like ESPN+, YouTube TV, and Amazon Prime. I also follow sports on social media like Instagram and Twitter. I see highlights, behind-the-scenes footage, and posts from players, teams, and sports reporters. Iam also a lot more on twitter interacting with people with other fandoms, or even fans of the teams I like. Although I do admit, some of the things are not always the nicest.

In the next five years, I think things will change even more. I can see virtual reality (VR) becoming a big part of how we watch sports. Imagine watching a game, but it feels like you’re sitting right in the stadium. With new technology and faster internet, this could become something that happens regularly. I also think social media will continue to make sports more personal, with apps and platforms recommending content based on what you like to watch.

If I could wave a “magic wand” and change something about the sports world, it would be to make athletes and fans even closer. Right now, it’s cool to see athletes post on social media, but there’s still a bit of a wall between them and us. I’d love to see more ways for fans to talk directly to their favorite players or ask them questions, and for athletes to share more of their daily lives. This would make sports feel even more connected and fun.

Overall, the way I follow sports has changed a lot, and I’m excited to see where it goes in the future. From TV to streaming and social media, the way we experience sports is becoming more interactive, and the possibilities are endless.

The way people follow sports has changed a lot in the last few years, and my own way of doing it has changed too.
