Skills<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

During my time at Old Dominion University, I have acquired a wide range of technical, analytical, and professional skills. As demonstrated by this portfolio, my work in these areas has shown growth over time and a strong commitment to developing the knowledge and mindset needed to succeed in the cybersecurity field. Some of my main takeaways from my coursework include the development of problem-solving, critical-thinking, and communication skills and the ability to use knowledge from the classroom in professional and real-world applications.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Critical Thinking & Adaptability<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Critical thinking and adaptability are two core skills I have continued to build over the last few semesters at ODU. Throughout many of my assignments, I have had to examine complex problems and find ways to work through and resolve them. I also have had to work under sometimes tight deadlines while effectively managing my time and balancing workloads across multiple classes. I have also had to maintain a high level of organization to successfully complete all of my work.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Communication<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Communication skills have also played a key role in my academic success thus far, as demonstrated by my performance in many classes. My course work has included everything from writing short discussion posts and reports to building presentations and professional portfolios that require me to clearly and effectively communicate my ideas. In many of these assignments, I have also had to support my positions with logic and evidence.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Cybersecurity Tools & Systems<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In my cybersecurity classes, I have had the opportunity to gain practical experience and skills using tools and systems relevant to the field. Some of the cybersecurity systems and protocols I have used over the course of my time at ODU have included PfSense firewalls, as well as configuring firewall rules, working with Linux systems in both Kali and Ubuntu operating systems, and encryption systems. I have also built and executed Python programs that included encryption, user authentication, and file management, which allowed me to better understand the relationship between cybersecurity and programming.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Network Defense, Encryption & Vulnerability Analysis, & Digital Forensics<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Through hands-on labs and assignments in my cybersecurity courses, I have also had the opportunity to gain knowledge and confidence in such topics as network defense, encryption and vulnerability analysis, and digital forensics. These are all technical skills that are directly related to cybersecurity and have also helped to broaden and deepen my technical base in other areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Social Science & Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

CYSE 201S and CYSE 425W were both extremely valuable courses that allowed me to explore the relationship between social science disciplines such as psychology and sociology and the world of cybersecurity. As a result of these courses, I have been able to develop an understanding of how human behavior and decision-making can have an impact on cybersecurity, as well as other factors such as the spread of disinformation online. I have also gained a better appreciation of how diversity plays a role in the cybersecurity space and related policy matters. Through writing policy analysis papers and articles reviews, I have also had to look at cybersecurity from a more human-centered perspective that includes factors such as ethics and trust as well as the impact of technology on society.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Entrepreneurship & Innovation<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In some of my coursework, I have also been able to stretch my creativity and develop skills in the area of entrepreneurship and innovation. Through the development of my Entrepreneur Website Portfolio, I have been able to work on telling my professional story, organizing my skills and achievements, and designing a professional webpage that is not only easy to navigate but that also accurately reflects my goals. I have also learned how to more effectively plan, design, and communicate ideas that have the potential to become real projects or viable business opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Collaboration & Leadership<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Collaboration and leadership skills are two other areas of professional development that I have been able to advance and strengthen through my time at ODU. In addition to engaging with my classmates in discussions and peer reviews, I have also had to both give and receive feedback, which is a vital and valuable professional skill in both working with other people and helping them to improve and refine their own work. Collaboration and leadership go hand in hand and, in the professional world, require individuals to be able to work with a variety of stakeholders to help achieve mutual goals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reflection & Lifelong Learning<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This portfolio is a reflection of the journey I have taken as a student at ODU and the many ways in which I have grown both academically and personally. I have also been able to refine and apply the soft skills I have mentioned in this section and become better at both self-reflection and recognizing my strengths and how I can continue to improve in the future. As cybersecurity continues to evolve, I also know that it is vital that I remain in a state of lifelong learning and continue to refine and expand my knowledge and skills to keep up with and prepare for any future challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
