Cybersecurity is a key factor when it comes to securing a nation’s homeland. Having the upper hand in cybersecurity can make you have the upper hand when it comes to having a better defense, more intelligence, as well as better technologies. In the United States we are facing multiple threat actors many from that are state sponsored meaning foreign governments are trying to cyber-attack us and gain intelligence. Many other attackers are black hat hackers who hack mainly for money and for their own gain. For example, we can take this so called “Chinese Spy Balloon” that was just blown up off the coast of South Carolina and use it as an example. I would say this is an example of a physical and mainly cyber threat, I think so because physically this balloon was not intended to cause mass destruction to the United States physically, but to collect information. In the cybersecurity world information is one of the most valuable things. As well as the in the United States we have nuclear power plants, critical infrastructure like this is susceptible to cyber-attacks. To compare to the country of Iran, they also have nuclear power but in 2011 their nuclear plants were targeted from a cyber-attack. This virus that used four different zero-day vulnerabilities was\u00a0implemented into their nuclear systems. This virus was called Stuxnet, and it destroyed centrifuges that Iran was using build its nuclear program. Another threat that countries state are domestic threats. This is kind of like insider threats within a company but now we are looking at citizens within a whole country. To secure domestic cyber threats the United States has many different agencies that run threat intelligence constantly such as the NSA, DHS, CIA, FBI, DOD, etc. These agencies are important to securing the threats at home.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
