When storing electronic information about individuals there are 4 main ethical problems that may arise; The first one being privacy and confidentiality. Every individual has a right to the privacy of their personal information and life. With there being a fantastically large economy of selling personal information, there is an ethical concern with the harvesting and selling of this personal data. The second ethical concern is security breaches. With the migration of data storage going online, there are regularly millions of records being stored on a server. With so many individuals’ information being stored in one place, there is the risk of a data breach occurring causing millions of people\u2019s information to be leaked for anyone to see. The third concern would be the withholding of information, such as if a data breach occurs. If someone’s information were to be stored on a server, the right for the person to know that their information has been compromised is a given; however, sometimes the information of a breach occurring is withheld thus withholding people the knowledge that their personal information has been dangerously divulged. The fourth would be the inappropriate use of data. Just as selling data is a grossly inappropriate use of data, so is the use of someone\u2019s personal information for more data. Statistically utilizing personal data or using data for research purposes without the person whose data it belongs to is a completely inappropriate misuse of data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
