There were personal experiences shared by the authors (both of the authors were clinical psychologists) and they explained how they had completely different styles of parenting past down from their parents. After so many failed attempts of reaching through to their child in order to understand and empower them through their childhood, they figured out that they needed to change the way they were communicating with their child. From discipline to love, they had to find a median within their approach to reconnect and become better parents. During my childhood, my father was the authoritarian type parent. He was very strict and if I stepped out of line I was severely punished for it. My mother was the uninvolved parent, mainly because my dad had to be in control of every situation. My family practiced the belief that the father figure was the head of the house hold and had the right to have the final say so for everything. When I had my children, I started off with the same attitudes and beliefs that my father had shown me, but then I realized that sort of parenting style was not for me. I gradually reformed into a authoritative parental figure. I am firm yet fair with my children by letting them know what is expected of them while letting them learn from their mistakes. In doing so, my children respect me more for letting them be themselves and trust that I a doing whats best foe them.

ATA 1 https://harddrivingtigers.weebly.com/parenting-styles.html Personal values and beliefs can be passed down through generations and also learned through personal experiences. Last semester I took Child Psychology and we read a book which explained how parenting styles can effect the psychological growth of a child and adolescent.
