In today’s informational world it is best advised to practice ways to ensure that a user’s computer is sage to use. One beginning step is to have a secure firewall in place. Computers these days (Window 8 and newer) already have a firewall product installed on their computers. A good firewall will help monitor and control most ingoing and outgoing “network traffic” based on a user’s predetermined security implantations that have been set in place. These firewalls in the newer computers are usually imbedded in the system (such as Windows firewall) and that actually helps wards off “bad stuff” trying to sneak in the” network traffic”. Another feature in newer computers can be the “automatic update feature” (i.e., Windows). This can ensure that the latest update configurations and software is installed to help the computer maintain optimal security protocol. Some computers systems (i.e., Windows) also come with built in Anti-Virus software (i.e., Windows Defender). These are programs that usually go hand in hand with the “automatic update features” to keep the Anti-Virus software up to date. If these programs (i.e. firewall, antivirus) are not built in then they can be purchased and installed on a pc.
Another way of keeping a computer safe is by implementing strong personal security habits when it comes to using a pc. The first part of that is creating a strong password. The stronger the password the less likely someone will be able to break into your system. Another good habit to practice is to lock you PC when you go off for a few minutes or an hour or so. Another measure for more computer savvy people would be to do something like encrypt their hard drive etc. This would further keep the computer more secure.
In all, personal habits and the right combination of security software helps to keep computers safe from attack in today’s informational world.
