Over the last five years, I would say that social media has been the main way that I consume sports media. I used to use Instagram as one of the main ways I consumed sports. I would follow my favorite teams and other sports accounts like Bleacher Report or Overtime. Initially, this was the way I kept up with the sports world a couple of years ago. However, that has since changed, and I now use X to keep up to date. I enjoy using X because you can receive sports news as soon as it happens. This is something beneficial during NBA trade deadlines, Premier League Transfer windows, or NBA/NFL draft news. X is also skilled at identifying accounts dedicated to posting news about your favorite sports teams.

YouTube is the social media that I continue to use quite often today. I use YouTube to watch highlights of a match or of a player that I like. Here is also where I like to watch YouTubers who talk about sports. These can be YouTubers that cover my favorite teams specifically, or YouTubers who cover things going on in a league I like. To contrast the popular trend of short-term media, I like to watch YouTube videos to get a deeper understanding of certain topics. The next way that I consume sports media is with the social media app TikTok. TikTok is the way I am able to consume quick-form content. This would be the highlight of a play that happened during a game or a fan edit of a player. A difference that TikTok brings is that the accounts of sports teams may post funny videos following a trend going around. Finally, I consume sports media by watching television, and I use the TV to watch my favorite teams play live.

In the future, I believe that podcasts will be even bigger than they are today. I see more players wanting to get into podcasting or even general managers wanting to start one. I can also see people wanting to watch fewer games live in exchange for short-form content on social media. The short form content would ruin some people’s attention span, and they wouldn’t be able to sit down or attend a game. If I had a magic wand, this would be the thing that I would change: get rid of short-form content. Getting rid of it would help push people to see more games at home or travel to see it live.

My diet for the consumption of sports media varies from a wide variety of different things.
