Teaching Assistant for Lifespan Psychology <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you can teach and guide a subject in your own words while facilitating unique learning, you have successfully learned the topic. This is a phrase that has been said to me for years and it could not be more accurate. The ability to explain to a student in a variety of methods and to see them apply that information in their unique way was a fulfilling experience because it is my way of passing on the great teaching that was provided to me. <\/p>\n\n\n

My Tasks and Plan of Action<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Providing feedback and suggestions on student’s discussions to facilitate their growth as future professionals has been challenging as it was enriching because it was a different perspective that I was not familier with. I believe that my role as an undergraduate teaching assistant (UTA) while as a student reminded me that I am not the only student who works late to complete assignments. With this perspective, I made my teaching philosophy to be as human as I could. Each time I grade and see that the student has submitted an assignment late, I will look at the time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As discussions are due at midnight, I understand that there are nontraditional students and students who work later hours to be able to attend early classes. If an assignment is submitted less than two hours past the due date, I will give full credit if the effort is put in. I have let each student know the first few weeks of class to help create a less stressful environment. This course is a freshman\/sophmore course and I believe that it is important to provide a structured yet relaxed environment that is suitable for a smooth transition from high school or workforce to a university environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I maintained open communication for the students through university email and canvas message center if there were to be a question about an assignment, etc. I aided the professor find supplemental videos to incorporate into modules and discussion boards as well as creating exam questions. I enjoyed this assistantship and has solidified my passion in teaching in my future career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
