There are many majors that relate to cybersecurity at Old Dominion University. Some of those majors are Computer Engineering, Cyber Operations, Cybercrime, and Information Systems & Technology. The Cybersecurity program at Old Dominion University prepares graduates with the skills necessary to protect computer systems, networks, and online data from attack and compromise. The courses focus primarily on computer science, computer engineering, engineering management, information technology and decision science, information assurance, wireless networking, criminal justice, philosophy and psychology, and even cybercrime.

The Computer Engineering Program is designed to provide a broad engineering background and a comprehensive foundation in technical principles underlying the computer area. The technical core consists of electrical engineering and computer science coursework to address hardware and software aspects respectively.  Computer engineers use techniques and principles of electrical engineering and computer science but also cover areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, computer networks, computer architecture, and operating systems. Cybersecurity relates to Computer Engineering because they’re both based on computers, technology, malware, software, hardware, and computer networks, and it has very similar courses.

Cyber Operations balances theory, practice, and hands-on labs inspired by real-life scenarios. Cyber Ops skills include system attack, infiltration, exploitation, defense, mitigation, and recovery. Cyber Operations and Cybersecurity are very similar to each other because they both deal with assessing risk and threats within computers and organizations.

 Cybercrime deals with investigating cyber attacks by cybercriminals. Cybercrime and Cybersecurity relate to each other because they’re both trying to stop or prevent cybercriminals from attacking systems and organizations.
