Final Reflection

Reflect on the Fall semester and the overall experience of your first semester at college.

Your First Semester

  • Tell us how you have grown from the beginning of the semester to now. I have grown with learning where most of the budlings are and knowing my way around campus.
  • What were your expectations for this year? Did this semester’s experiences meet your expectations? Explain. I expected for my semester to go by smoothing but it was very difficult for I had to many distractions, procrastinating on work, and becoming overwhelmed with different assignments.
  • What is something you wish you knew 14 weeks ago? I wish I knew if I dropped certain classes, it wouldn’t affect my gpa.
  • Study Habits
  • How much time do you spend studying for each class now vs. at the beginning of the semester? At the beginning I didn’t study at all but now I study 2-3 times before I have an exam.
  • How have your study habits changed? My study habits have not changed much I still need to take more time out my days to study. I expect to be better for next semester.
  • Tell us about a resource that you have used/learned about this semester that will assist you next semester. I learned about the tutoring hours they have for different subjects and there hours.
  • What study habits/techniques will you use going into next semester? I will take the time to study once a day to keep the material that I learned fresh in my head, and I will also take advantage of going to tutoring hours more often if I need it.
  • Health Professions Learning Community
  • This semester you were enrolled in at least SOC 201S, and HLTH 101. Many of you were also enrolled in CHEM 105N and CHEM 106N, and some of you were enrolled in HIST 104H with Professor White.
    • On the surface these classes do not appear to be connected; however, this semester each professor was intentional about drawing connections between content, and subjects discussed. Discuss the ways in which these courses are tied together. Sociology relates because it talks about how human society works. While the health profession class explains the different fields in health science and how it’s important for society because it involves helping people and making sure they stay healthy. In addition, the chemistry classes are the most important part when it comes to the medical field because it gives us knowledge on chemical nature of medicines and how it will act.
    • Parallel Plan
    • This semester we had presentations from different majors in the College of Health Sciences as well as from different majors on campus. This was to give you an idea for possible parallel majors to your current intended major.
    • Which two other majors would you be most interested in? Why? Dental Hygiene and Medical Laboratory science.
    • What benefit is there to having a parallel plan (or two) in place? If felt that my intended major wasn’t the best fit, I could also think about the other two majors that I may enjoy better.
    • How could one or both of these two majors benefit your current intended major? Medical laboratory could benefit my intended major because it examines patients’ blood in the lab while nuclear medicine takes images of different organs and analyze to see what treatment could be used if the patient happened to have a certain disease.
