Service- Learning Project: The service learning project allowed me to develop leadership skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Through my participation in the project, I learned how to communicate effectively with diverse groups, work collaboratively to achieve common goals, and develop creative solutions to address challenges. These skills enhanced my academic performance and helped prepare me for future careers in global health.
Applied Practice Learning Experience: During my applied practice learning experience (APE) project, I gained several leadership skills. Collaboration was crucial when working with instructors, my preceptor, and other staff. I had to communicate effectively, build relationships, and resolve hurdles to achieve shared goals. Critical thinking was another skill that I developed through the APE project. I had to analyze complex public health issues, evaluate theories and principles, synthesize information, identify knowledge gaps, and make informed decisions. I Improved my communication and professional skills through on-the-job training. In addition, I practiced professionalism in all work situations, including behavior, dress, oral and written communication, and ethics. I was able to take on the role of a public health professional and apply all that I have learned through this experience.
Integrated Learning Experience: During my integrative learning experience (ILE) course, I acquired an array of leadership skills, including project management. I had to plan and execute a public health project within a semester, which involved setting goals, prioritizing tasks, managing resources, and communicating with team members and instructors. Communication skills were also necessary to prepare a presentation of the Capstone written product. I had to communicate complex ideas effectively to diverse audiences and further develop public speaking, visual design, and technical writing skills. This experience allowed me to integrate information I’ve acquired throughout the curriculum, apply it in a real-world situation, and present it effectively.
