{"id":103,"date":"2019-02-01T20:32:39","date_gmt":"2019-02-01T20:32:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/healthhistory\/?page_id=103"},"modified":"2019-02-01T20:32:39","modified_gmt":"2019-02-01T20:32:39","slug":"sub-topic-4","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/slaveryproject\/sub-topic-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Sub-Topic 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>SUB TOPIC REQUIREMENTS (this is the individual portion of the project)<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Change the title of the page to the title of your subtopic. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Include a byline &#8211; identify the author of the page (you).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Include at least three (3) images with citation, more are strongly encouraged<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You must write at least 500 words in paragraph form about the topic. \u00a0Think of this as a 5 paragraph essay, with introduction, thesis statement, supporting paragraphs with evidence from primary and secondary sources, and a conclusion which relates back to the thesis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The primary sources should be easily accessible. \u00a0Provide hyperlink(s) to your primary source(s) so readers can easily access on their own. \u00a0Don\u2019t forget to include information from this source in the body of your written content.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You must provide citation of all source material used within the body of your text, following the Notes and Bibliography style. \u00a0Refer to the following <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagomanualofstyle.org\/dam\/jcr:4299d2ce-7b54-4bb4-95b2-bd567dd8ef97\/Turabian-Tip-Sheet-12.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Guide to in-text notes<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Sub-Topic Format Guidelines<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Introduction (1-2 paragraphs)<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Provide a brief summary of what you plan to discuss in your project. Introduce your topic to your classmates and describe general information. \u00a0This is generally a paragraph or two, no more, ending with a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/owl.purdue.edu\/owl\/general_writing\/the_writing_process\/thesis_statement_tips.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">thesis statement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or the basic argument of your paper. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Body (3+ paragraphs)<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is where you provide your own analytical interpretation of source information, and provide <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">evidence from primary and secondary sources in support of your argument<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. \u00a0<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Include information from at <\/span><b>least two (2) scholarly secondary sources<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to help you provide an overview of the topic. \u00a0Address the questions of who, what, why, where, when<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Establish context &#8211; when and where?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Who were the key players?<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Significant individuals or groups involved and who they were\/why they were significant (biographical information)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What problems needed to be solved\/what were their goals?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What actions did they take? <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What were the outcomes?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Provide specific evidence from <\/span><b>at least one (1) primary source<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in support of your argument. \u00a0For each selected primary source, identify the author(s) and provide a basic overview of the ideas discussed and how they relate to your argument. <\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Identify the author\/creator and provide short biography<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Why was it written or created and for what audience?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Describe the content of the primary source<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Analyze the information contained in the source:<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What does it tell you about specific ideas or events?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How does it connect to the overall topic?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Conclusion (1-2 paragraphs)<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Explain the significance of your topic and primary sources\/key players<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What impact did they have at the time?
