Four ethical issues that arise when storing electronic information about individuals are privacy and confidentiality, security breaches, system implementation, and data inaccuracies. Privacy is defined as the right to be let alone or also the right to keep information about oneself from being disclosed to people without a need to know. While confidentiality on the other hand is for the person handling said records to only disclose this information with those only with a need to know in the definition of keeping it confidential. But this plays a huge role in electronic storage of records. Sometimes some information can be leaked due to hacks or just the user accidentally emailing the wrong person medical information that does not belong to them. It is best to train all users on this because this has happened many times where sometimes names will get confused and they will disclose wrong information to wrong patients or personnel causing a dilemma that had no need being started in the first place if the information was handled correctly. Security breaches are not uncommon in today’s day and age. You hear more and more about people accessing restricted files and using these files to gain some kind of monetary gain and all these people have to do is pass a simple interview that requires little to no background check and then they have access to easy files that can contain social security numbers, birth certificates, etc. All these things are huge ethical issues with security breaches. When it comes to system implementation it comes down to the program, the administrator, and the users. These things must be monitored on the daily but sometimes people become lax and lose their ways and forget to do the easiest of things and then it makes the system vulnerable to attack which could lead into information being leaked again. Relaxed attitudes when it comes to the electronic storage of information is something that is not needed and can not be tolerated. Data Inaccuracies are very common all it takes is one misspelling of a word of a type of a letter in the wrong spot and information can be sent to literally anyone. This arises a huge issue that ties hand in hand with relaxed attitudes towards the system. All it takes is one simple double check to make sure all information is correct to not allow any leaks of personnel information.
