As each day goes by, technology is getting better and smarter throughout time. Cybersecurity professionals start to multiply because they are needed with this technology being integrated in our daily lives. As things start to go digital, this helps the safety of government operations and healthcare. The purpose of this paper is to examine a cybersecurity analyst and how social sciences are connected.

BLUF

Cybersecurity analysts are important for the safety of people from digital threats by using the knowledge of human behavior and technical precision. Cybersecurity is argued to have more meaning than just technology by addressing ethical difficulties and human vulnerabilities.

Social science principles

It may not be easy to realize but cybersecurity does have a lot that deal with human behavior. Understanding social sciences and the research helps cybersecurity analysts figure out problems and solutions on why hackers want to achieve a certain crime. “For instance, behavioral economics, a part of social sciences, can help explain people’s choices, which may compromise security measures”(Lawal). Understanding certain behaviors will enable you to act quicker and be more confident in your decision making for the specific situation. Phishing is another great example because this is a cyberattack, but it impersonates an organization or individual via text, email, or call. Psychology plays a part because it is tricking the mind of a user to reveal sensitive information. “Experts discuss the effects that cyber events cause on society by applying social science theories to establish strategies that can prevent such impacts”(Lawal). The creation of safety policies, training programs for awareness, and more depth in detailed instruction show that cybersecurity revolves around people as much as technology.

Application of Key Concepts

There are so many concepts from social science that correlate with cybersecurity, it’s just a matter of how much you expand your mind to connect them. Determinism is a principle stating that behavior is caused or influenced by preceding events(Yalpi). It is important for analysts to have previous knowledge of the present crime to fully understand why that human behavior is taking place. Relativism from a social science view means that all things are related(Yalpi). Human behavior and its effect on people can relate and change the way operation systems function and how security systems can malfunction. Honeypot studies is very common in the cybersecurity world and is when researchers create a platform to watch and lure cybercriminals away from targets. CrowdStrike states, “The honeypot serves as a decoy, distracting cybercriminals from actual targets. It can also serve as a reconnaissance tool, using their intrusion attempts to assess the adversary’s techniques, capabilities and sophistication”(Vaideeswaran,2025). This compares to how hackers use human behavior to take advantage of people, it’s just flipping it on them. Cyberpsychology is another concept where it relates to how the analyst uses human behavior towards the mind. It examines how behavior is influenced by technology and how our psychological states can be affected by technologies(Yalpi). As a cybersecurity analyst, you need to understand the mind of what you know and what others could possibly know. This can evolve with what people learn from technology.

Marginalization

Cybersecurity issues that occur have a higher chance of affecting marginalized groups because of the limited access they can obtain. “ Malicious actors exploit low digital literacy and tech familiarity to defraud DFS users”(Anthony,2023). This challenge takes place because it is easier for hackers to efficiently do what they want. “Lack of affordability of secure hardware and software puts lower socioeconomic groups at greater risk”(Anthony,2023). With technology growing in what seems like seconds, not being caught up can cause significant problems. With iPhones, there is a new one released every year with new malware and tools. People with low income are sadly at fault because they have to use older devices that don’t receive these updates. “In Ghana, the public lacked sufficient awareness of how a new tax on electronic financial transactions, known as the e-levy, would be collected”(Anthony,2023). This is a great example of how different countries aren’t on the same page as everyone else. This causes a need for cybersecurity analysts to be more open to creating specific policies for a countries’ vulnerability.

Career Connection to Society

Cybersecurity analysts play an important role in the functionality and safety of modern society. With the use of AI and technology continuing to grow, analysts are the people that promote the good and manage and limit the bad. Healthcare and government operations are moving to more digital systems to protect their data, this can lead to more hackers going after it. Cybersecurity analysts are behind the scene to keep your health and legal data safe.

Conclusion

To conclude this paper, it shows that cybersecurity analysts will be around for a long time. They value the aid of humans as much as the functionality of technology systems. The world will be in good hands with people who know how to handle cybersecurity.

Scholarly Journal Articles

References

Anthony, A.
