Exploring Culture

In this course I was lucky to have a conversation with native speakers from other countries in Talkabroad Conversation. I was able to talk about “La beuna salud y la comida” with my partner in talkabroad. Down below is us talking about food and our healthy habits.

After having a couple conversation with native speakers in Talkabroad I was able to learn more about different cultures. I was also able to speak in Spanish and interact with them. In the video my partner and I were talking about our favorite foods. I also learned new food dishes from Nicaragua. This conversation made me realize I can talk to more people in spanisj and feel confident when I speak it.

Engaging in Communities

Being bale to engage with the community is really important. In this course I was able to learn about anxiety, depression, and stress. I personally relate with anxiety when it come to school exams. Down below is a picture of a flyer I did to help people who suffer from depression.

After finish up this unit about mental health. I learned that doing small activities with your friends and family, or going on a walk can help someones mental health, anxiety, or depression. I am glad I was able to make this flyer on depression because I can give someone helpful recommendations if they think they have depression.

Interpersonal Communication

Down below is me using talkabroad for the first time. I was able to talk to something from a different hispinic country which was Nicaragua. I was able to hold the conversation pretty good with my partner.

This was my first time using Talkabroad and I really liked it. I was a little nourves at first because I was scared my parter wasn’t going to understand my Spanish. But my partner was so patient and nice I wasn’t nourves when I was actually talking to him. Conversation went very well I was about to talk about my family and my health he was also able to do the same.

Presentational Speaking

This is a video of me making my favorite daily dish. I go over the process on how to do a peanut butter and jelly sanwhich.

I really enjoyed making this video for my classmates. I also felt like I was having some difficulties trying to explain the ingredients in Spanish. I had to record the video a couple time because I kept missing up my words. After finally be able to say the ingredients correctly in Spanish I was able to complete the video and turn it in.

Presentational Writing

Down below is a flyer I did to convince my classmates to join my running club her at Old Dominnion University. This is also a perfect example of presentational writing.

Writting this flyer down helped me how say help information to my classmates by try to get them to join my running club. I was also able to say a couple informal commands in Spanish. I was able to convince them to try out something new if they were interested on running.

Interpretive Listening

I was able to learn about the Spanish royal family by listening to this youtube video. The video taled about the whole family and they also said their names and more.

This video showed me a little bit of Hispanic culture from Spain. During the whole course I was able to learn a lot about hispanic culture. I was also able to listen to a lot of Spanish in class from my professor and my classmates. American and Hispanic countries have so many similarities and differences in cultures which is very interesting to know.

Interpretive Reading

During the whole whole course I had tp read a lot of Spanish. In ContraseƱa everything was in Spanish and it helped me improve my reading process.

Everything I had to read during the course was really interesting. When it came to doing my homework it was difficult sometimes because I wouldn’t be able to understand some words. Reading is a big part in this Spanish course because its the only way we can memorize the vocabulary in Spanish. Everything in class including the power points were very helpful to me because I manage to understand and get better at reading Spanish.
