An Effective Reflection

  • During this learning journey, I came upon a process of skill development and personal growth during this learning experience, facing obstacles that truly seemed impossible and having to go over things with myself more then once and often reaching out to tutors to help me better understand the material. But also, recognizing my own accomplishments.  sharing the challenges I overcame and the life-changing events that influenced me which lead to me working harder in Spanish education. I have worked very hard in this course by showing up and trying my absolute best every day in class, and doing the homework.

Exploring Culture

My comprehension of Hispanic perspectives has been greatly enhanced by my engagement with true cultural products and practices. Reading articles, songs, and shows written by Hispanic authors gave me the opportunity to explore more details of their cultural beliefs and storytelling customs. In addition, taking part in cultural events and customs like traditional dance shows  gave a close-up view of the diversity of Hispanic heritage. Speaking with native speakers via Talk abroad and consuming Spanish-language music and movies on my own time expanded my cultural awareness and helped me grasp the attitudes and values of the Hispanic community on a more complex level.

Engaging in Communities

Being involved in my local community as well as the larger world community has been extremely beneficial for my personal development and for creating a sense of unity. Locally, I’ve been able to comprehend the needs, difficulties, and various viewpoints in my immediate surroundings such as when I am at work. There are plenty people at my job that do not speak English well. It was hard to communicate at first but, while being in this class and being able to understand and to communicate with them, I have became a person of need at work due tone being one of the only people that could understand. My understanding of global issues and interconnectedness has expanded as a result of my participation in international forums, online interactions with people from various cultural backgrounds (talk abroad), and contributions to international initiatives. Adopting a global viewpoint promotes respect for cultural differences, and an understanding of our shared accountability in tackling global issues.

Interpersonal Communication

I participated in a variety of interpersonal oral and written activities this semester to improve my Spanish language skills. TalkAbroad was one prominent platform that promoted unexpected communication through zoom conversations with native speakers. Furthermore, Lingro learning and the homework gave me the chance to engage in written discussions about course subjects, which improved my Spanish reading and writing abilities at home.

At first, it was difficult to participate in TalkAbroad conversations because the conversations were unpredictable. I eventually developed the ability to adjust to unexpected conversations, which helped me grow increasingly  comfortable and able to respond logically. Writen projects was probaably the most challenging for me because of my inability to understand complicated grammar rules, but regular practice improved my writing style. By performing well in the talkAbroad discussions, I was able to increase my vocabulary and my pronunciation. As I think back on these experiences, I see how crucial it is to view obstacles as chances for personal development. The following time, I would concentrate on starting more conversations on the board to improve my proactive communication abilities and look for a variety of conversation topics on TalkAbroad to increase my language proficiency even more.

Presentational Speaking

I engaged in a small variety of presentational speaking exercises this semester as part of my Spanish language learning process. One noteworthy assignment required giving a brief presentation on the steps to make a specific dish, start to finish in spanish. this called for both language proficiency and the capacity to effectively communicate  the instructions to the class.

Fluency was a problem when speaking in a presentational style, especially when switching between intricate concepts. I worked on honing the flow of my script and practicing transitions. As I think back on these talks, I can see how much my capacity to combine ideas and convey them clearly has improved. All in all, these exercises have strengthened my self-assurance in discussing difficult subjects in Spanish, highlighting the significance of both linguistic and cultural competency.

Presentational Writing

In English, give a very brief 2-3-line description of the presentational communication of compositions, pamphlets, blogs, flyers, stories, articles, and any other written presentation activities you completed this semester inside or outside of class for or related to your Spanish learning. Include a copy of a written presentational activity you produced? (See Modes of Communication link for description and examples).

Then, in a paragraph, write a reflection that includes each of the activities you described above in which you explain how you have grown with each assignment or activity. What became easier and what was difficult? How did you overcome the difficulties? What did you excel at and why? How could you do better next time?

Interpretive Listening

I participated in a variety of interpretive listening exercises during the semester to further my Spanish language education. As part of these exercises, I listened to real materials in Spanish, including music and shows. These have helped me improve my listening comprehension.

At first I found it difficult to follow a Spanish shows about peculiarities of culture because of the speakers’ rapid speech and distinctive regional accents. To get around this, I played back parts to understand subtle expressions and used english captions to follow along. The most fascinating feature was that I was exposed to a variety of accents, which enhanced my comprehension of pronunciation differences. Every listening exercise, whether done in class or on my own, has improved my auditory comprehension and linguistic nuance knowledge. What I’ve learned is that there are a lot of different Spanish accents, and I can now recognize more nuances in language, which will help me become a much better language learner overall.

Interpretive Reading

I read articles, stories, and other materials both inside and outside of class to participate in a variety of interpretive communication activities that helped me learn Spanish during the semester. Reading a piece about current affairs in a Spanish-speaking nation was one such exercise that gave language learners a practical setting in which to apply their language skills.

There were difficulties with complex vocabulary and common phrases when reading real articles. To get around this, I used google translate to learn and understand new words, which helped me understand their subtle meanings. The exposure to various writing styles and cultural perspectives expanded my knowledge of linguistic nuances, which was the most compelling aspect. Whether completed in class or on my own, every reading exercise and homework  has increased my vocabulary, comprehension, and cultural sensitivity. The main lessons are a greater understanding of the diversity of linguistic contexts and the diversity of the Spanish language. All things considered, these exercises have greatly improved my reading abilities and broadened my understanding of Spanish culture.
