Spanish 102

Exploring Culture

This semester we had an assignment called Talk Abroad. With this assignment I was able to talk in all Spanish, my partner Patricia did not know any English. It was interesting because when I didn’t understand what she was saying she would show me a picture. There was a technique where when I didn’t understand she would also use her hands to help me understand. One thing I also was happy to learn is that where she lives she also has Netflix and we were able to bond through that.

Engaging in Communities

I don’t have an image of myself helping the food bank, so I decided to add the name of the Foodbank. The Virginia Peninsula Foodbank has been a big part of my life since growing up. I remember growing up with my mom and brother and having to get food once a month from the food bank. I am now a volunteer their it brings me happiness to see other kids and adults smile when they are able to receive food. It brings me peace that our city is able to offer food for those in need and people are able to donate to the cause.

Interpersonal Communication

I chose for Interpersonal Communication a discussion board where we had to listen to a video and answer the question in Spanish. I chose this discussion board because I understood the words that were used in the video. Once I was able to post my response my classmates then were able to respond. In this assignment I was able to learn classmates’ favorite sports and what sports they played in school, some didn’t like sports either. Some of me and the classmates had the same interests in sports, or completed the same sports in high school or as an extra activity.

Presentational Speaking

The video below is my response to Presentational Speaking. In this specific flipgrid we listened to the video and answered the questions. The questions were about what is our favorite sports, and do we prefer playing with others or alone. We also learned about the professor’s favorite sports.

Presentational Writing

I chose this assignment because it was one of my favorites, I researched information about Spain and wrote about it. I learned that 29% of poor households spend more than 40% of their income on housing costs. To be able to learn how another country lives is very interesting and has me wondering what the specific numbers of the US are. I was also able to learn 8% of people say they don’t have friends or family when they need help. That is sad to me because family should always be there to help. Lastly, I learned that people from Spain prioritize family and they make time to enjoy the company of their loved ones they bond over food, and crime is low in Spain which makes it safe to live.

Interpretive Listening

I chose an intro to a lesson for Interpretive Listening. At the beginning of every unit, we had to listen to videos or the sounds of words. In module 7, we were learning about how the letters sound and how to pronounce the words with our mouths. The lesson was able to help remind me for all other lessons how to pronounce B, V D, and G.

Interpretive Reading

I chose this assignment from Gramática 10-15 El Aviso. This assignment required a lot of reading. With this reading, I was able to learn and comprehend the words stated. This assignment was difficult at first because I had to look through what specifically a verb is. We also had to find the verbs, with this I was able to learn verbs and able to locate them in paragraphs.
