This is my second summer semester at Old Dominion University (ODU). In fact, this is only my fifth semester at ODU (a total stay of one and a half years). Spanish 101F was where my first impressions of the University were made, and what inspired my goal of getting better at Spanish outside of class and I hope Spanish 202F only pushes me further.
I have not lived in Virginia my whole life, much less Norfolk. Though I am originally from Virginia Beach, I moved from Lynchburg to attend this University. Throughout my stay in different states such as Alabama, Indiana, and Pennsylvania I came across a plethora of areas in which Spanish was as important to know as English–especially within my goal career. I am at ODU in an effort to complete a four year English degree with a focus in Secondary Education. Students come in many different shapes and sizes, and each come from a variety of different backgrounds. Educating myself through Spanish will at the very least help me to understand these backgrounds, but has the potential to help me communicate as well.
