This 311 course is focused on the aspect of speaking the Spanish language with goals to “develop linguistic and cultural proficiency in verbal communication.” After taking this course, I am able to highlight main ideas in conversation as well as interpreting texts along with other things. Underneath this description will be examples of my coursework that shows my progression.

TalkAbroad

Down below is a link to one of my Talk Abroad conversations. Talk Abroad has helped me to grow exponentially in my verbal communication because we are speaking to native Spanish speakers. Being able to talk to these native speakers has expanded my knowledge of different hispanic countries and cultures. These 30 minute conversations help me to be able to create topics and sentences on the spot which helps with the flow of my speech. Also, my listening and comprehension skills are able to improve as I listen to the speaker.

Oral Presentation

This is one of my oral presentations about love. We were given an article or poem to read, and afterwards we had to answer the analysis questions and present them to the class. Presenting in front of the class helped me to communicate my ideas but it also really helped me to interpret texts better and to understand the main idea in each literary works. These presentations also gave me the freedom to express my own ideas on things while learning about how different cultures think.

Tertulias

In this class we had assignments called “Tertulias” which were questions designed for class discussion. With these I was able to communicate my opinions on current social and political issues in my country and other countries. These conversations made me more comfortable in expressing myself and interpreting other opinions.
