I choose Instagram as the place to establish my social media presence for this assignment. Instagram is very visual and focused on athletes, which makes it a wonderful place to show off both your skills and your personality. Instead of making a persona based only on the best experiences, I tried to show what it was really like to be a Division I baseball player at Old Dominion University. Balance was the main idea behind my approach. One post talks about getting ready for game day and how focused and intense you need to be before you get onto the field. But I meant to put that together with videos of training sessions behind the scenes. Social media typically only shows success, but I wanted my character to convey the struggle that goes into getting to those moments. The practice photographs and training captions stress mental preparation, discipline, and doing things over and over.I also integrated aspects of my identity beyond the realm of sports. A post that talks about my Pittsburgh heritage links my competitive nature to where I grew up. Adding geography and personal identity to my sports content makes it more real instead of just showing a generic athlete. I also talked about what it’s really like to be a student-athlete. Online, people don’t often talk about how challenging it is to balance schoolwork with practice schedules, but it is a big part of my life.I thought about how Instagram works when I wrote these posts. Short captions, an encouraging tone, and smart hashtags help material reach more people. This site’s layout and embedded postings aim to create a cohesive experience. The written commentary explains what each post is about, and the pictures support the persona. In the end, this experiment shows that a social media persona is not something that happens by chance. It is put together. The character I made up stands for discipline, consistency, and honesty in sports culture.
