I was mostly just a fan who watched highlights and followed my favorite teams and players. I would check ESPN for scores, watch SportsCenter, and scroll through Instagram to see big plays. A lot of what I consumed was short clips and quick reactions. I did not really think deeply about where the content came from or how it was produced. I just enjoyed watching it.

Now my sport media diet is very different. As a Division I baseball player at Old Dominion University, I look at sport media in a more serious way. I still follow highlights and big moments, but I also pay attention to player development pages, baseball training accounts, and sports analysis. I watch YouTube videos about mechanics and listen to podcasts that break down the mental side of the game. I use social media not only to watch content but also to post and build my own presence. I think more about branding and how athletes are represented online.

The biggest change over the past five years is how fast everything moves. News breaks instantly on social media. Games are clipped and posted within seconds. It feels like there is always something new to see. Everything is also more personalized now. The apps show me content based on what I already like or follow. Because of this, my sport media diet feels more constant and sometimes overwhelming.

In the next five years, I think sport media will become even more personalized. Technology will probably allow fans to choose different camera angles, live stats, and custom commentary during games. Athletes will likely continue building their own platforms and communicating directly with fans instead of relying only on traditional media.

If I could change one thing about the sport communication world, I would slow down the rush to judge players and teams. Social media makes it easy for people to react quickly without knowing all the facts. As an athlete, I know how frustrating that can be. I think taking more time before sharing opinions would make sport media more fair and accurate.

Five years ago my sport media diet was pretty simple.
