First, one of the ways is to check to see if your computer is updated. It’s some computers like windows computers which is what I have you can go to settings, and it has a windows update, and it can update your computer for you automatically. It’s also important to use anti-virus software on your computer to prevent from getting viruses like trojan horses, spyware, and many others. Making sure your passwords is strong can make your computer safe because strong password with 8 characters that has a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols have a less chance of being hacked than having a password that is generated. Also, if you start to notice your battery is starting to go down quicker or your computer is starting to be slow then that is not a good sign. Those things can be caused by going on random websites or clicking on links in your email that can lead to random ads or pop ups being on your computer.

Computers have made the world a safer and have also made it dangerous. Another it has made the world a safer place is by having security apps so we can make an emergency call when we feel unsafe. For example, ODU has an app called “ODU Mobile” and it has a section that has safety which gives students the option to contact the on-campus police or get a ride where they need to go if they don’t feel safe or feel they are in danger. Also, computers have made the world safer because we have IoT sensors for people that work in industries to monitor unsafe behavior or to measure dangerous emission levels. Now computers have also made the world unsafe because it has cybercriminals who engage in cybercrime by hacking into networks and putting people at risk to tried to get their personal information. Computers can be less safe to us humans because it can lead to addiction the more time, we spend on computers can led to health problems like eye strain, sleep deprivation, and increased stress levels. Lastly, it can be less safe because of cyberbullying which can happen on social media and people harass people on the internet and can impact their mental health.

Sources:

10 Tips for Safe Computing | Fox News

How Technology is making the World Safer – Alatpres

The Impact of Technology on Society: Positive and Negative Effects (linkedin.com)

There are a lot of ways that you can check to make sure your computer is safe.
