I had the pleasure of building a VEX 10 Base bot with sensors and it was a fun but educational experience. Because this was my first time working with this type of gadget, I was a little nervous. Trying to figure out how all the parts and sensors fit into the overall design was a bit of a challenge. But as I continued to work on the bot, I started to see how important each piece was in actually making the robot function properly. This Base bot robot is simple but it can be manipulated and customized in a lot of different ways such as adding a Claw bot to it. I enjoyed learning how the sensors operate because they help the robot detect when there is an obstruction. I also had to learn how to calibrate the sensor and read the data that it provided; it was daunting but enjoyable. It was also interesting learning how to program the sensors to make sure that they are not too sensitive which could hinder the operator from fully enjoying the experience. Before this experience, I did not have an opportunity to program and calibrate sensors for a robot, so my confidence levels were boosted. I didn’t get a chance to take any pictures but I enjoyed seeing the children play with the bots and I felt a sense of pride knowing that I contributed to their fun. Overall, building the Base bot with sensors opened up new doors for me to build more advanced projects which is something I never had an interest in until now.
