Cybersecurity if one of the fastest growing industries. It is creating jobs for millions around the world and millions more to come. These growing career opportunities should encourage everyone to want to be part of this field.
Cybersecurity Industry
The cybersecurity industry is constantly growing, and its numerous job titles are incorporated within a countless number of other fields. For students like me and many others who are interested in being part of the cybersecurity industry, should first do extensive research and find something that interest them the most.
Blue Team Member
A career that I found interesting was Blue Team or Defensive Security. During my research, I discovered that a Blue Team member is highly important to an organization’s overall security. Organizations utilize Blue Team members to test every aspect of their business’ security and attempt to find any vulnerabilities to prevent cyberattacks. To become a Blue Team member, you must be adept in many aspects of computing and have technical knowledge and analyzation skills. Blue Team members are greatly needed in the workforce and organizations are constantly on the search for them. Given that 45% of breaches in 2020 included hacking, there will be an increase in demand for Blue Teams and ethical hackers (Kannan, 2021).
Cloud Security Architect
The Cloud is very crucial to all individuals and businesses that utilize computers. The cloud is similar to an ecosystem of servers that store and manage data. When information is stored on the Cloud, there needs to be an insurance that that data will be secure and protected; that’s where a Cloud Security Architect comes into place. A cybersecurity architect (sometimes just called a “security architect”) is responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining the security systems within an organization’s IT network, including the computer systems and data (Terra, 2022). Cloud Security Architect is a very difficult career to pursue because you need to be an expert in both computer science and cybersecurity, and you must be able to solve difficult problems and have knowledge of technical security concepts.
Conclusion
During my research into these two career paths, I learned many things about cybersecurity in general. Both careers taught me about the different disciplines you have to have educationally and morally to be in the cybersecurity field. You need to have years of computing skills and safety awareness and also have to earn certifications in many aspects of computing. You will be solving a great number of problems when working in the cybersecurity field, so you need to have the morals of know right from wrong and being able to think critically when under pressure.
