Feminism

Feminist criticism uses writing to detail the inequalities expereinced by women in the various time periods of the writings or show how in even in writing women are still unequal to men.  Some of the main questions asked are; how is the relationship between male and female in this writing, who holds the power in this writing, and what are the dynamics of femininity or masculinity in these writings. The authors that use this type of criticism use it to show either their own experiences going on or ones that those around them have experienced. However, many of these writings use feminism in a more subtle way as to not get in trouble by the authority figure around them because it was wrong for them to speak out about these things happening around them.

Important feminist critics depend on which era of feminism you are looking at however Rosetti and Chopin both set the stage for women being sexual without being sexualized. This is a major step in the direction of feminism with “The Storm” and “Goblin Market”  showing women having sexual relationships without them being forced or coerced into while also not being disgustingly sexualized in the process
