Deconstructionism uses commentary similar to feminism and queer theory to make comments on politics as well as social aspects of everyday life. This theory also challenges other theories as well including structuralism as it tends to pick apart the societal norms on the western culture such as marriage and sexuality. This theory also suggests that language basically knows almost no bounds and is always changing and evolving in different ways.
Kate Chopin uses deconstructionism in “The Storm” to pick apart the different aspects in marriage and sexuality of women. She uses Calixta to discuss how women should be allowed to have these sexual feelings in their lives as well as challenging what it means to be married and being a mother. Because of the sexuality experienced by Calixta, she commits adultery with another man however feels no remorse and welcomes her husband and son into the home after the man leaves and the storm passes. This challenges the typical western stay at home idiot wife and mother who only knows how to cook and clean and not think for herself.
