What classes are you doing well in, and why?
- In my Philosophy course, the topic of human nature is explored, and I find it to be a fascinating subject. It’s intriguing to learn about the various factors that influence our actions and how we are all interconnected. Additionally, my history class is going well as we delve into the interpretation of America’s past. I thoroughly enjoy this class, as I have always had an affinity for learning about history, recognizing that it often repeats itself.
What classes did you identify as needing assistance in?
- Without a doubt, I require assistance with my chemistry courses. I admit that I struggle with comprehending and deciphering the subject matter, particularly during lab sessions. At present, my performance in this area is not satisfactory. However, I am optimistic that with dedication and practice, I will improve my ability to study and learn new material more efficiently.
What changes have you made?
- I’ve discussed my concerns with my professors, and I’m taking proactive steps to enhance my academic performance. I’m committed to seeking tutoring and dedicating more time to studying, as well as making full use of available resources to enhance my knowledge and excel academically.
Transition to College
What expectations did you have coming to college?
- Coming into college, I had high expectations of personal growth and academic challenges. I anticipated a diverse and intellectually stimulating environment where I could explore new subjects, develop critical thinking skills, and build lasting relationships. Additionally, I looked forward to gaining a sense of independence and self-discovery while preparing for a fulfilling future career.
If you live on campus: What has been your toughest challenge with moving away to college? Easiest challenge to overcome?
- What has been truly eye-opening is the level of responsibility that comes with college It’s a role where everything ultimately rests on your shoulders, and you must consistently excel and stay organized; otherwise, reaching your full potential becomes quite challenging. I’m genuinely surprised by the level of stress I’ve experienced since taking on multiple demanding classes, especially given my tendency to procrastinate. However, I’m determined to overcome this feeling of regret and regain my focus. With a strong resolve and a committed mindset, I believe I can overcome these challenges and achieve success.

Name something you have learned about your intended major that you did not know at the beginning of the semester.
- I learned the importance of therapeutic communication in nursing, which goes beyond medical procedures and plays a significant role in patient care and well-being.
Have your feelings changed about your intended major?
- My perspective on nursing has evolved, and to be honest, I no longer aspire to pursue a nursing career. This isn’t a critique of the profession; it’s undoubtedly admirable. However, I’ve realized that I would be more fulfilled in a different career path that aligns better with my genuine interests and passions.
Is there another subject (major or minor) that you are interested in learning more about?
- I’m considering the field of exercise science as a potential area of interest because I’ve always been fascinated by the interplay between physical fitness and overall well-being. Exploring the science behind exercise, its impact on health, and the potential to help others live healthier lives is something that genuinely intrigues me.
Connecting to Campus
Name one problem or challenge you have encountered this semester, and which resource(s) at ODU you have/can utilize to assist with this situation.
- One challenge I’ve been facing is my tendency to procrastinate, and it has had a significant impact on my productivity. With a growing pile of assignments and more work continuously assigned, it’s been challenging to stay on top of my responsibilities. However, I’m actively working on improving my time management and addressing this issue to become more efficient and effective in my academic endeavors.
Is there a friend, roommate, professor, advisor, or group in the ODU community who has helped you so far this semester? If
- So far this semester, I haven’t received assistance from anyone, because I haven’t asked but I’m open to seeking the support of a tutor or anyone who can enhance my learning experience and help me achieve my academic goals.
Have you attended an interest meeting for a club? Why did you decide to get involved or not get involved?
- I haven’t had the chance to join any clubs because I’ve been busy with the initiation process as a new member of a fraternity. However, once I complete the initiation, I’m looking forward to exploring various clubs that pique my interest.
Guest Speaker/ Field Trips
Which guest speaker/ field trip did you like the most? What did you like about it?
- I’d say Theo Urbano was my favorite speaker. It was fascinating to gain insights into a male perspective on nursing and learn about the unique aspects of his nursing journey. His experiences were truly inspiring, showcasing the breadth of opportunities within the field.
How do you tie in their field of study in with nursing?
- Well, he is currently enrolled in the DNP Advanced Practice Program. It’s genuinely inspiring to see men like him making significant contributions in the nursing field, making it clear that there are diverse opportunities for those who wish to continue in this profession.
What guest would you like to see/engage with on the panel towards the end of the month?
- graduates who recently completed their nursing degrees can offer fresh perspectives on the current job market, transitioning from student to professional, and how to make the most of their time in the program.
