Name-Image-Likeness Class Project: Ajah Wayne Endorses Products that Support Her Lifestyle

The Name-Image-Likeness class project is our last project of the semester and one that I have looking forward to doing. Natalie was my project partner.
Ajah likes listening to music using Apple AirPods while traveling on the bus or airplane to and from games, during study hall, while working during internship at ODU Police Department. She likes using AirPods for several reasons:
- help to alleviate her inner ear pain
- easy to use
- Bluetooth
- provide privacy when making phone calls
- safe for driving
- has a long connectivity distance
Branding Campaign:
This campaign supports Ajah’s personal branding which combines her characteristics as a student-athlete and why she would be an excellent brand ambassador for Apple AirPods. They both share similar characteristics for example when she plays basketball, she makes it look effortless and she is a reliable leader on and off the court. Apple AirPods are known to be effortless, user friendly and reliable as well as can be used on and off the court. Ajah’s favorite basketball player is the late great Kobe Bryant and is reflected in the purple color.
Branding Statement:
Ajah Wayne has had many accomplishments both on and off the court. As a student-athlete, she has honed her skills as a leader to become the face of ODU Women’s basketball team. According to Ajah Wayne as a Profile in Courage for the ODU Women’s Basketball Team, her teammates describe her as courageous, tough and a “fighter.” Her coach describes her as the “heart and soul of the Monarchs!”
What is Name-Image-Likeness (NIL?)
Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) is a term that describes the means through which college athletes are allowed to receive financial compensation. NIL refers to the use of an athlete’s name, image, and likeness through marketing and promotional endeavors.
How Old Dominion University Implements NIL Policy:
- Per the NCAA Interim NIL Policy adopted on June 30, 2021 and effective July 1, 2021, student-athletes at ODU are permitted to earn compensation from the use of their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL).
- ODU may not prohibit or prevent student-athletes from using their NIL for approved commercial purposes nor declare student-athletes ineligible based on them earning income from their NIL.
NIL is a great opportunity for student-athletes to earn money and compensation. This has been a long time coming! My hope is that student-athletes will take full advantage of it.
